Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

I can’t remember why I bought this. I had been wanting to try a Bite Beauty lip product for a while now, but I was looking more towards their French Press lip glosses than a balm. I think it vaguely had something to do with a Sephora special, I must have needed to spend a certain amount for something, free shipping maybe. So I ended up with this Agave lip mask, a better than your average lip balm. And so it should be for AUD$40.00 I expected to have the healthiest, smoothest lips I’d ever experienced.

Bite Beauty claims that this lip mask improves the texture of lips so that they’re more hydrated, healthier-looking, soothed, and softer feeling. Which is good but also what I expect every lip balm to do so I’m assuming the high price point is from their unusual ingredient list. However, ingredients can only matter so much to me, in the end how the product performs will decide if I think it’s worth the money. As for this lip mask, it does back up it’s claims. It soothes and moisturises my lips; it will heal them from being chapped back to normal. However is it anything amazing? No. I’ve had cheaper lip balms preform the same way and achieve the same results. I’ve decided that I won’t be repurchasing this product once I’ve finished it.

The texture of the lip mask is quite thick but it will thin out on your lips, and it will last for a couple of hours if I’m only drinking and not eating anything. The main issues I have with this is firstly it’s application. By application I mean complete lack of a way to apply this, it’s just a tube that I have to squeeze product onto my finger and then apply to my lips. This is not a huge bother but it means that I get sticky fingers afterwards and if I’m at work and handling money I wash my hands before I apply this because money carries a lot of things and to go straight from touching that to my mouth is not healthy at all. The second issue I have is the very strong scent and flavour this carries. I say carry because it will stay there for the entire time I’m wearing this. The scent will ease eventually but the sickly sweet flavour will last the entire time. I don’t like having any flavour to my lip product, a scent I can handle if it fades but I don’t need to be tasting an artificially sweet fruit flavour every time I talk.

Do I recommend this?

Because this balm doesn’t have any major miracle elements and the smell and annoying application are quite difficult, I wouldn’t recommend this. Not for the price point in Australia compared to how it performs. I own the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Cream and have been using that nightly as a lip mask for years now and it performs just as well as this for cheaper and nearly three times the amount of product. It too has a distinctive scent and smell however they also have a specific lip balm in the same formula that doesn’t. I would recommend those before this if you’re looking for a serious lip treatment.
